News and stuff!
Freshwater Fruit Farm has been awarded a GOLD Green Island Award again! This means that our work in recognising the importance of the environment has been officially recognised. If you would like to know more about why and what this means, click here. We have also added new features to the website that will hopefully let you see what the Island has to offer, regardless of where you stay ... though hopefully it will be with us! There are three main pages; Beaches, Going Green and Ghosts! We try to meet as many of the comments that previous guests have made, including redecorating one of the caravans, replacing Swallow with a bigger mobile home, replaced some of the mattresses and so on. Other improvements we have made to the site include adding a compost bin, glass bin, aluminium bin and paper bin. In 2005, we built a small laundry room that has a washing machine and even ironing facilities, this was made out of wood from a factory that produces some of the world's largest wind turbines! If you would like to find out more about the improvements we are making, please click here. Our prices are low in comparison to other holiday camps because we are not offering the bar, pool etc. When John and Brenda decided to raise their children here it was because of the peaceful qualities, the wildlife and the safety of this area, which is what our holidays are about. If the type of holiday you want involves late night discos, on-site swimming pools, in-house massages and so on, don't book with us! We want you to have a great holiday on the Island regardless of where you stay, so if you want a peaceful, relaxing and gentle break with your family, where you can really be in the heart of the countryside, you've just discovered the ideal place with us! If you would rather have night life, discos and live entertainment - book with Haven or someone else because you certainly won't find it at Freshwater Fruit Farm (unless the toads, squirrels, pheasants and foxes decide to put on a little song and dance routine of course!) Gift to Nature is a voluntary visitor payback scheme that has so far developed a wild meadow in the West Wight to encourage butterflies, insects and of course, after those will come more birds, wall lizard walls, bird and squirrel hides and loads more! We actively support Gift to Nature, if you add a £1 donation onto your booking, we will match it (we would like to point out that this is entirely voluntary). We would like to stress that there are not rows of fruit trees, neither is there a farm shop, swimming pool, club house or bar. During the 2006 season, one party commented that they were disappointed to not see neat rows of 'pick your own' fruit and were not able to buy local goods from an onsite shop. We have tried to make it as clear as possible, there is no shop, no swimming pool, on no part of the Farm are there any pick your own fruit trees - we are trying to develop a vegetable patch for guests but in 2006 this resulted in little interest, depending on the season, there are mushroom and puffballs in the neighbouring field and in time, we are hoping that some pear and apple trees that were planted several years ago near the mobile homes will provide fruit. Freshwater Fruit Farm is thought to be the oldest market garden on the Island, and as such, we will not be changing it's name! It was one of the main tomato producing nurseries on the Island in the early-to-mid part of last century, and as tomatoes are a fruit, that is how it got it's name.
